Weekend in Review....Happy Birthday Steelio!

What a weekend! It was jam packed with fun, happy, Sydney moments. I did as much of my weekend homework on Friday night so that I could play this weekend... and play is what I did. Happy Birthday to my sweetness Steele all the way from Australia.

Saturday
Saturday was one of those magical days where one activity flowed into the next and every step was equally joyous...

I woke up early (6am) and made my way into the city for a yoga class...
view of the sunrise over Sydney and the Anzac Bridge while waiting for my bus....

Met 2 of my classmates, Ananda +Claire, and Matt Phippen at Yoga Sanga for a 7am class. Despite these misleading smiles we were all pretty disappointed with the class....

But we made up for it at 'Bills' for breakfast where Matt, Claire and I met Claire's husband for delicious ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter (http://www.bills.com.au/recipes/recipe2.htm) The restaurant is set in a courtyard with lavender growing everywhere and tables built around trees in a cute neighborhood called Woollahra...many flat whites and great conversation to set the day back on course...

Then we stopped at the Paddington Markets for a stroll. I bought some earrings on a whim, but everything else was a bit frumpy/crafty for my tastes....so we had another flat white! (i swear they're addictive)

Then straight to Bondi Beach with Matt, Claire, and James (claire's hubby) for some sun and sea. it was packed since its one of the first days of summer here. it's a gorgeous beach--same one i visited on my first day in sydney.
could i be happier? sun, sand, sea....(the only s i'm missing is....? steele!)
swimming and philosophical questions with matty p.....
called Steele from the beach at the stroke of midnight for his bday!

then we walked from the beach to the Bondi Bowls Club (http://www.bondibowls.com.au/)
where we met some of Claire+James friends for a birthday party. I guess as of late lawn bowling has become very trendy. in the past they've been kind of vfw type places where the elderly set head for a refreshing ale and a competitive game of bowls. but the hipsters caught on and now it's cheap beer, fun games, and general merriment! we played a few games, but none of us got the hang of it....

james, our most successful bowler.....

i can tell my form was way off.....

but it was so fun to be with claire and matt and james. claire and james wanted to show us their sydney and it felt so good to be with insiders. just flowing through the day with them. claire is an interiors stylist for a big interior decor magazine here called inside/out...but she wants to teach yoga too! we were scheming all day of how we could open a studio together here as the studios are a bit lacking in vibe... next weekend I'm going to Claire's holiday house on the coast about 2 hours away. sounds amazing...can't wait!

then the adventure continued on...I went with Matt to a party called "Raise the Roof." This friend of his had just finished renovating his rooftop terrace so he was celebrating with an all-out fete. It was , how do i say it, an entirely gay soiree. i was one of only 3 girls there--and there were probably 70 people. fun to be loved up by a bunch of cute gay boys! it was a beautiful rooftop overlooking Sydney . Fully catered with passed champagne, cocktails, delicious apps, boys, boys, boys, and lots of fun....
i made it home by about midnight so that I could wake up early today (Sunday) and head to Manly. I woke up early this morning to find a song in my inbox written by steele. i listened to it probably 40 times today...so sweet. it's one of my favorites of his so far. you can feel him through the song....

Manly is a beach that you take the ferry 30min to get to...my classmate Virginia lives there so I met Annie, my instructor, and we rode the ferry to beautiful Manly. Virginia and her husband, Dave, met us at the ferry wharf and gave us the 5 minute tour of Manly. then we headed back to their place which is right on the beach and had an amazing lunch. Virginia is a chef so we had---shrimp+orzo salad, rocket (arugula) salad, homeade hummus+pita, and then we headed down to the beach....

Annie + Melissa...
Virginia's homeade Chai....

the two beach bums...we swam, we walked, we gossiped, we soaked in the rays.....

view from Virginia's terrace....aren't those cool palm pines?

virginia prepping dinner!
Angela+Melissa....
Dave preparing dinner on the barbie. And yes, we had Shrimp on the Barbie...

las chicas.....
a quintessential sydney scene....
riding the ferry back to the city.....

manly wharf....

all in all a great weekend. i'm halfway through my time here and i'm already getting a bit sad to leave. it's pretty much paradise here...
love to you all. xxoo
